Facilitator Roles & Responsibility

      <information>

The role of the facilitator is to ensure that adequate communication

         exists between the participating school and the LVS in order to best

         serve the participating school’s students. The participating school’s

         principal selects a site facilitator who will best serve the goals of the

         LVS. As per the State Standards for Distance Education, this individual must be a certified teacher.

The facilitator must be physically present on the participating

         school’s campus, be present during the time of course delivery, hold a

         Louisiana teaching license, and be a member of the school faculty.

         This facilitator must have daily access to email, Internet, a phone,

         and fax machine.

Each school facilitator is required to attend a training before the beginning of the school year.

Please contact Stephanie Cox Marcum at 225-219-0434 if you have any facilitator registration questions. Note: If
		 you need to register and enroll students before the next facilitator training sessions, please refer to the Site Facilitator’s
		 Guide, where a step-by-step procedure is available. Once you log in as a facilitator for the first time, the link for this
		 guide will be available on the facilitator home page in the upper right-hand corner.

Primarily, the site facilitator is responsible for student selection, registration, assessment monitoring, mentoring, and grade
		reporting--basically, similar to the role of a guidance counselor in any school setting. In addition, the site facilitator is
		responsible for gathering the required data involved in the registration process, ensuring that students have active e-mail accounts,
		and collecting the Academic Honesty Agreement and the Louisiana Virtual School Acceptable Use Contract from each student for each course
		in which they are enrolled. The facilitator accounts for and conveys that information to the LVS Administrative Staff. At times other
		tasks such as, ensuring web access, providing technical support, or proctoring an exam, as well as distributing materials and supplies
		and collecting them at the end of the semester, are required.

Facilitator Contact Information

      <information>

Facilitators must provide the LVS with a current active email address,

      phone number and mailing address. Typically, email is used as the primary

      means of contact for administrative purposes. Facilitators are requested

      to provide email addresses that are used for professional purposes and

      are secure enough to be used to communicate grades and other student

      related information. Additionally, facilitators are responsible for

      checking and responding to their email in a timely manner.

Student Selection

      <information>

The site facilitator recruits and enrolls students in the LVS in

      cooperation with the school principal and guidance counselors. Students

      must have the qualifying prerequisites to take a course and should have

      an expressed interest in taking an online course. The students selected

      should be able to work independently and handle responsibility.

      Participation in the LVS will require students to be involved in

      independent and collaborative projects and research using word processing

      and Internet skills. Students must plan their work, be responsive to

      deadlines, and be conscientious in completing assigned tasks. An

      interview with the school site facilitator is a part of the student

      selection process.
